A white man was shot dead by LAPD officers just after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, in the 1600 block of West Temple Street in Westlake. He has since been identified as 25-year-old Jack Schlesinger.

According to the Los Angeles Times, three officers were patrolling the neighborhood when they discovered a vehicle that had been reported as stolen. The suspected thief was thought to be armed and dangerous, LAPD Assistant Chief Earl Paysinger told the Times.

When Schlesinger exited the vehicle armed with what Paysinger said appeared to be an AK-47 assault rifle, two of the officers opened fire, killing the 25-year-old.
