Jack Russell’s Great White Bite Back: The Great White singer brings one of two versions of the band to the Whisky for some riotous blues rock. Guitar & Whiskey Club, Garden of Eden and If I Fall also play.

Back in 2017, we spoke to Russell about performing classic material with his new band.

“It feels snappier, tighter,” Russell said. “I don’t tell them to play it lick for lick. Some parts I want exact. Solos and stuff. I’m not likening this to a Led Zeppelin song, but just for analogy’s sake, it’d be like changing the lead to ‘Stairway to Heaven.’ Some things you don’t mess with, and people want to hear what they know.”

In 2016, this writer spoke to Russell’s guitarist Robby Lochner for the Tucson Weekly (where he’s from), and he said: “I kept telling [Russell] that we need to write together. Finally he started writing with me, and it just became magical really quickly. His head turned around and he said, ‘Oh my God, this is really good.’ I was never worried. I knew it was just a question of us getting comfortable. His vocals are just sounding way better. I’m getting much better performances out of him. Now he comes in and completely relies on me. It’s great because it’s so easy now. At first he wasn’t really listening to me. Now, he completely trusts me with lyrics. He said that he doesn’t let anybody help him with his lyrics. Now, he’s got to run all his lyrics by me.”

With new albums in the stores, this version of the band is up and running.See for yourself.
