It’s National Ice Cream Month, and every Angeleno’s favorite childhood ice cream brand Thrifty is offering a chance to win a year’s supply of Thrifty ice cream through the month of July. Thrifty has been making ice cream for more than 80 years in California, maintaining many of the same award-winning recipes and old-time prices. The scoop shops exclusively inside Rite Aid offer at least 50 flavors, as well as gallons to go.  You can also find it at Northgate markets.

To enter for a chance to scoop up the sweet deal and to find out more details about the limited-time offer, see here and take in some frozen-in-time trivia below:

Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Thrifty in Honor of National Ice Cream Month

  1.     Thrifty churns out 1.5 million scoops of ice cream every day.
  2.     The most popular flavor of Thrifty ice cream is Rocky Road, followed by Cookies and Cream, and Cotton Candy.
  3.     “Cali Delight” is a flavor only available in California – vanilla ice cream swirled with orange sherbet.
  4.     Thrifty sources from local providers like real crunchy California almonds (no wonder Rocky Road is a best-seller).
  5.     Today, more than 500 Rite Aid stores across the country contain hand-dipped Thrifty ice cream stations.
  6.     The  unique cylindrical scooper was designed to create easily-dispensed, uniformed scoop sizes – so that no customer feels jipped and everyone gets the perfect portion. The iconic scooper is now available online on Rite Aid website for flawless scoops at home.
  7.     Thrifty tests hundreds of quirky flavors each year – some of the craziest concoctions that didn’t make the cut are T-Bone Steak, Bacon & Cheddar Cheese, and Sriracha Swirl.
  8.     Thrifty employees get as much ice cream as they’d like while on the job.  It’s no wonder that the 100 or so workers at the factory have combined  2,000 years of experience making only Thrifty Ice Cream
  9.     Many of the Thrifty ice cream recipes have remained the same for 50+ years – so you may just be eating the same tasty treats that your great-grandparent scooped into.
  10.   Thrifty remains one of the best deals on the market.  As recently as 1975, a single scoop cone sold for  5 cents. Even today, prices are still old-timey and you can grab a single scoop for only $1.99. What’s
