It’s a Halloween Knife Party: Australian duo Knife Party will be performing at the Academy on Halloween, which seems entirely appropriate. The project was named after a song on metal band Deftones’ White Party album; they once said during an interview with MixMag that, “…we’re not advocating any type of knife-related crime any more than Swedish House Mafia were advocating organized crime.”

It seems weird that a musical group would have to justify a name, but here we are. The duo — Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen — haven’t released a full length album since 2014’s Abandon Ship, or an EP since 2019’s Lost Souls. Of that EP, a press release stated: “The 4-track project, titled Lost Souls, marks their first EP in 4 years. It’s no surprise that it’s received strong support from DJs all across the globe, with everyone from Martin Garrix to Alesso happy to have new Knife Party music to play in their sets again.”

They’ll be joined at the Academy by Steven Wright, Fantom Freq and Matphilly.

The event takes place at 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 31 at the Academy LA.

ALSO THIS WEEK:

50 Years of War: Long Beach funky rock & soul band War will celebrate their half century with a free gig at the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Appropriately enough, as well as a performance by the band there will be a lowrider car show. Also, live mural painting and local food.

According to Rhino.com, “In celebration of their 50th Anniversary, the legendary LA band WAR has partnered with the City of LA Parks and Venice Beach to introduce a new initiative to re-establish Venice Beach as a safe and family-friendly recreation area for everyone. The community event is presented by Rhino Entertainment and produced locally by Munson Industries and will showcase a performance from WAR, a low rider car show featuring the ENVYUZ Minis and Dogtown Devils car clubs, and a special WAR inspired mural by the STP crew will be completed live. There will also be exclusive event merch and food vendors. The celebration is accessible to the public and will be located at Windward Plaza in Venice Beach starting at 12 p.m. PT and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. PT. The community event will showcase local Venice Beach vendors, including food by The Waterfront and The Erwin Hotel’s Venice Way Pizza. Twenty percent of the day’s sales will benefit Venice Family Clinic, a leader in providing comprehensive, high-quality health care to people in need.”
