Reverence and gratitude expressed to a sacred spirit flow throughout world cultures, often most beautifully expressed in dance and music. Three contrasting cultures embodied by three locally based troupes take the spotlight in a program dubbed Giving Thanks . Halau Keali'I O Nalani offers the elegant dance and music of Hawaii. Viver Brasil presents African-influenced dance from Brazil. Shakti Dance Company contributes percussive bharatanatyam dance from India. All three are familiar and respected forces on local stages. Each is worthy of viewing in its own right, which makes this shared concert a special treat, as well as an opportunity to savor the different dance styles from other countries, styles that have flourished here. It's also a reminder that leftover turkey, football games and shopping are not the only ways to give thanks.
