Multi-Car Accident near Sanger Results in Fatality

FRESNO, CA (August 12, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that claimed the life of Israel Lara last Saturday.

The incident happened around 2:20 p.m., at the intersection of Highway 180 and Oliver Avenue. Officers arrived to the scene shortly after.

According to reports, 60-year-old Lara was driving a grey Ford Escort south on Oliver Avenue when he drove through a stop sign and entered the westbound lanes of the highway.

Afterwards, a westbound yellow Ford Econoline attempted to swerve to avoid the collision, striking a white Hyundai Tucson in the process. As a result, the Ecoline spun out before it overturned and came to a stop on the north shoulder.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai struck the driver-side door of the Escort. As a result, Lara suffered life-threatening injuries before he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators say the other occupants involved suffered non life-threatening injuries.

At this time, it remains unknown whether or not drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Israel Lara during this very difficult time.
