Drunk Driver Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Willow Street

SAN JOSE, CA (August 17, 2021) – Police arrested Ismael Gonzalez after a fatal pedestrian crash on Almaden Avenue last Saturday.

Per reports, Gonzalez ran a red light through the Willow Street intersection after speeding north on Almaden Avenue. Officers arrived to the scene around 9:00 p.m.

Investigators say the suspect struck a man who was walking in a marked crosswalk. Due to the impact of the crash, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition, Gonzalez fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim. However, officers located the suspect just before 10:30 p.m., in the 1100 Block of Starbird Circle.

The San Jose Police Department arrested and booked 43-year-old Ismael Gonzalez for felony DUI, felony hit and run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.
