Man Fatally Struck by Suspected DUI Driver near South Emerald Drive

SAN DIEGO, CA (February 28, 2023) – Sunday morning, a fatal DUI crash along SR-78 leads to the arrest of Isabella Herrera. The incident happened around 10:20 a.m. on eastbound State Route 78 near South Emerald Drive. Based on the report, a grey Buick Verano struck a man changing a tire from his grey Chevrolet HHR in the center divider. Unfortunately, the man changing the tire suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His identity remains undisclosed pending notification from the next of kin. Meanwhile, first responders transported the 22-year-old Buick driver, Isabella Herrera of Oceanside, to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Subsequently, officers arrested Herrera for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
