Victim Identified after Pickup-Truck Plunges into Ocean near Highway 1

PESCADERO, CA (May 3, 2022) – Friday night, Ipolito Anaya was identified as one of the deceased victims after a car plunged into the ocean.

Around 8:45 p.m., officers received dispatch calls about a vehicle that went down a cliff, and into the ocean at Pescadero State Beach.

Reports indicate that the driver of a pickup-truck was speeding along Highway 1, and attempted to turn into the beach parking lot without stopping. As a result, the driver lost control and traveled down a 30-foot cliff.

Crews located the vehicle on its roof, and in the ocean. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medical personnel pronounced 39-year-old Anaya, and a young girl dead at the scene.

In addition, officers say a third occupant was missing and has not yet been found.

At this time, San Mateo Officials are working to identify the circumstances surrounding the crash.
