Yes, you may still be shaking from Tuesday's National Coffee Day caffeine binge, but you'll get over it. Have another cup of joe or, better yet, learn about your habit. Next Saturday, October 10th, Intelligentsia coffee roaster and quality control specialist Jared Linzmeier will be teaching a class on coffee roasting at the Intelligentsia coffeebar in Silver Lake. And, if you can't get enough coffee in your system to make it to that class, Linzmeier will conduct 'Roasting: More than Light and Dark' again the following Saturday (October 17th) at Intelligentsia Venice on Abbot Kinney.

“Sometimes people get trapped in the zone,” said Linzmeier by phone from Intelligentsia's roasting facility in Glassell Park this morning. “You can pidgeonhole a coffee and miss the nuances that come out. We'll talk about the changes that can occur in the same coffee from roast to roast, the momentum, a few other variables, and then we'll taste the coffee from a few different roasts.” As for which beans he'll focus on, Linzmeier says, “probably our Kenya, it's one of those coffees that I get awesome things from.”

Classes are from 1-3 p.m. and cost $5, which includes the coffee tasting. Participants receive a 5% discount on merchandise and 10% discount on whole beans.
