Before he launched his rap career as one-half of the acclaimed duo U-N-I, Thurz was just another kid from Inglewood, growing up with a single mom and a few J. Dilla and Tribe Called Quest records. “Right Now,” the third single off his excellent Designer EP (released last fall via Red Bull Sound Select), tells the story of that kid, and now it has a powerful new video to match Thurz's deeply personal lyrics and a soulful, old-school groove — produced by Aaron Harris — that would make Marvin Gaye smile.

The video, directed by Pablo Balderas (Nas, Deap Vally), was shot around Inglewood and portrays a typical day in Thurz's childhood. Says the rapper, “I started 'Right Now' with the lyrics, 'I wouldn't rap if I knew who my father was/His substitute was a letter with no love.' This served as a statement highlighting the influence that fathers have on their sons and questioned if my career path would have been the same if I knew my biological dad. It was a moment of reflection with telling you all the story of myself and how we get to the moment of 'Right Now.' The video portrays a version of my younger self and how my mother, music and the city of Inglewood raised me.”
