The body of an infant was found in the Angeles National Forest yesterday, and the LAPD is trying to figure out why the baby's parents didn't appear to have reported the death.

The discovery was made yesterday by the LAPD's Abused Child Section, which received a tip that the death occurred last year while the parents were taking care of the child, who was said to be only 6 weeks old, according to an LAPD statement.

Cops would only say that …

… the infant was found in a wooded area with the help of coroner's investigators.

The parents were not identified and were not named as homicide suspects: It wasn't even clear if they had been contacted or arrested.

Where exactly is the baby from? Police aren't saying.

Still, detectives say they need your help. Anyone with information about this ambiguous case was asked to call the LAPD at 1-877-527-3247.
