Demonstrators were gathering outside the Indonesian Consulate in L.A. today to decry authorities treatment of punk rockers in the island nation last week.
A concert in Banda Aceh was raided and 65 fans were arrested and brought to a police camp for “reeducation.” Perhaps most notoriously, however, the peacock hair of the punk rockers was shaved by authorities.
The demonstration happens …
… until 1 p.m. outside the consulate at 3457 Wilshire Blvd. in Koreatown.
During the roundup punks' also reportedly hand their piercing jewelry removed.
Fellow punk rockers this week filed a report with the National Commission on Human Rights alleging assaults at the hands of cops who raided the event, according to UPI.
L.A. has a healthy Indonesian community, made up of a mix of native Indonesians and wealthy ex-pats of Chinese descent and their children, often sent to attend college here.
