Little known, incarcerated attorney Richard Fine is starting to get a following, with a “Free Richard Fine” rally taking place this morning between 9 and 11:30 a.m. at the Los Angeles County Courthouse in downtown L.A.

Fine's supporters are peeved that the lawyer, who former L.A. Daily News editor and muckraking blogger Ron Kaye describes as “an anti-tax crusader who exposed illegal payments to (L.A.) Superior Court judges,” has been sitting in solitary confinement in L.A. County jail for more than a year.

Fine, who's 70 years old and has been making waves about judicial salaries, has refused to disclose personal financial information to Superior Court Judge David Yaffe, who then ordered the lawyer to sit in the pokey until he gives that information up.

In a dramatic, new development in the case, the U.S. Supreme Court will take up the Fine matter at a conference hearing on Friday, April 23.

Emmy Award-winning public access TV producer Leslie Dutton, the hard-charging host of Full Disclosure Network, has certainly stoked the growing interest in the Fine case.

For months, Dutton has been following all things Fine, and recently landed a jailhouse interview with the attorney — L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca, who oversees the county's jails, finally approved her long-standing request to talk with Fine.

People showing up at the rally today are urged to wear a red or yellow shirt in a show of support of Fine.
