Neptune is back with his most heartfelt song yet. Premiered exclusively with L.A. Weekly, the emerging artist returns with his brand new single titled “Outcast,” reminding fans he’s “lightyears away.” Boasting 608,000 followers on Instagram alone, real name Dylan Friedlinghaus has been carving his own lane and creating his own sound in the R&B realm, unleashing vulnerable records for his growing fan base to relate to.

Formerly known as Dynamite Dylan, the California native chose the name Neptune because he wanted to do something he’s never done before, with the solar system becoming his main source of inspiration. Quiz him on anything and we guarantee he knows the answer. With this new project, he says, “the lyrics just started flowing and Neptune was born from there.”

His new sound is very dreamy and space-like, sonically matching the whole theme of his lyricism. But music is nothing new for the 15-year-old, as he began singing at the young age of eight. Thanks to family friend, Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am, he created his first project titled Dynamite Dylan which included standout single “YOU” featuring Post Malone. Peaking at #14, the record spent an impressive eight weeks on the Billboard Pop Digital Song Sales Chart.

Over one year ago, Neptune made the conscious decision to leave Jake Paul’s Team10 and embark on his own independent journey to work on his craft. That’s when he jumped into the orbit and never looked back. With Neptune being the most distant planet from the sun, his entire brand and image (which includes blue hair) just makes perfect sense.

“Outcast” was written about Pluto specifically, highlighting the feeling of being left out or alone. Neptune explains, “An ‘Outcast’ means to not belong to any group or to be cast out from a group. I wrote the song about Pluto, but anyone who’s ever felt left out of a group or felt different from everyone else will be able to relate to the message. I really focused on a planet as the theme for every song for this project so I tried to keep my emotions out of the lyrics when I started writing.”

The transition to Neptune helped Dylan cut out the middleman, which meant penning his own lyrics and creating the music he desired to make. His forthcoming project is aptly titled Neptune’s Shiny Demise, a 14-track project for the planet’s 14 moons. “Outcast” serves as the lead single, which has the co-sign from mentor Post Malone.
