Singer-songwriter Journee is best known for her smooth, sultry sound, and her records provide you with an escape from life — hypnotizing you with her distinct voice and vibey production.

The Bay Area native was bred in Sacramento but raised in San Jose with her five brothers and sisters. Real name Journee Walker is currently a college student attending UC Riverside, studying liberal arts. While education is obviously important, the real reason she migrated to Southern California is to be closer to Los Angeles — where she can fully pursue her passion for music. Once she graduates… it’s over.

Currently pushing her single “This and That,” Journee pairs the song with a bright visual. The two-and-a-half minute clips sees her in different outfits against different backdrops, effortlessly bringing the lyrics to life. “This and That” was written with a young, vulnerable female in mind — one who may be quick to fall for the wrong type of men. It’s definitely not easy being a female, period, but it’s even worse when you’re sprung on a guy who doesn’t deserve you.

Journee says, ‘This and That’ was such a special single to me because it allowed me to express the edgier side of me. I feel like I wasn’t afraid to say how I felt about the situation and was very open to speaking my mind, unapologetically.”

This is a female empowerment song reminding women of their worth and what they deserve. Journee’s frustrations are not only relatable, but reminds audiences that they are not alone.

On the chorus, she sings, “So If you can’t pop a gun for me, then maybe you’re not the one for me. If you’re more focused on what that girl’s doing or this girl and that girl, then baby just be done with me.”

Another theme is that we’re all entitled to our thoughts and feelings. Journee’s freedom and ability to vent via recording music offers fans an inside look at her own life.
