Irvine-based In-N-Out Burger opened their first two Texas stores this week, to much fanfare and long lines. How long was the line? Youtube user armenw estimated 150 cars parked outside the Allen, Texas, location five minutes before the doors opened. Youtuber kylycorey shot video of the lunchtime wait for the drive-through a few hours later. Turn the page for the video!

First: aren't you glad we live in a place where the rabid devotion to In-N-Out is more easily satisfied? This video reminded us of the insanity when the very first Southern California Krispy Kreme location opened in La Habra in the mid-90's. The La Habra donut shop closed up, like so many other Krispy Kreme franchisees across the country.

You may remember that donut operator's over-aggressive expansion, failed IPO, and equally sudden collapse during the low-carb diet years. Let's hope that the management of the family-owned In-N-Out took to heart the hard lessons from the Krispy Kreme case study and takes a wiser path to sustainable growth.

In-N-Out lists addresses for seven soon-to-open Dallas stores on their website, with possible plans to expand to other Texas cities. The OC Register and our sister paper The Dallas Observer have further news on yesterday's madness
