The votes have been tallied in Arcadia, and it didn't end up so well for pro-density developer Henry Nunez. (Updated below.)

Nunez wants to increase the zoning in downtown Arcadia, which would allow him to build a high-density project around a light-rail station. For the last 10 days he's been fasting to draw attention to today's election, which he hoped would result in a more pro-density council.

But the voters didn't share Nunez's hunger for five-story condos. Robert Harbicht and Mickey Segal, the two candidates who strongly oppose Nunez's plan, finished first and second.

The three candidates Nunez supported finished third, fourth and fifth. (There were three open seats, so the top three candidates won.) Nunez didn't answer his phone after the votes were counted, but here's hoping he ate a cheeseburger or something.

Update: We caught up with Nunez today, and he says he broke his fast around 11:30 p.m. last night at an all-night hamburger stand in Alhambra. He had a grilled cheese sandwich, three chicken strips and some chili fries.

“I'm happy because I did what I felt was right,” he said. “I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by the poor turnout. Their voter base, which is an elderly Caucasian voter base, came out and supported them.”
