There’s no shame in paying to see a cover band. And there’s no shame in seeing the same cover band, say, six or seven times, either. If you still require some arm-twisting, there will be strength in numbers at Save New Wave II, where not one, not two, but four tribute acts — Blasphemous Rumours (Depeche Mode), The Cured (The Cure), Joshua Tree (U2) and INXS-IVE (INXS) — invite ’80s music fans to gather free from scorn and judgment (they will never understand). Headliners Blasphemous Rumours’ Brent Ryan not only sports Martin Gore’s blond curls but also his bondage gear. INXS-IVE’s front man also hails from Australia. Joshua Tree go as far as re-creating U2’s famous 1983 Red Rocks concert in Denver. The Cured’s singer Zippy Twombly wears a wig for authenticity, though a real Robert Smith fan would grow and style his own hair, ozone layer be damned. As usual, former KROQ DJ and current Sirius Satellite Radio host Richard Blade will emcee the evening, which also includes a costume contest and DJs spinning more retro tunes till you just can’t get enough, just can’t get enough.
