Since 2004, Melrose's Gallery 1988 (soon to open a Venice location) has been a pop-culture attraction, thanks to exhibits that have paid tribute to everyone and everything from cult movies to the Beastie Boys, as well as solo artist shows. For the new year, the gallery and co-host FunnyorDie.com present Is This Thing On?, featuring paintings, screen prints, sculpture and other works by more than 100 artists interpreting both legendary comedians — Johnny Carson, Richard Pryor and George Carlin — and relative newbies Jerry Seinfeld, Tina Fey and Sarah Silverman. There's Steve Martin in The Jerk, Louis C.K. as a zombie, Will Ferrell as The Anchorman 's Ron Burgundy and — for fans wondering what the gone-too-quick comic looks like in the afterlife — Greg Giraldo as Jesus. Gotta wonder who's more offended.

Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 7. Continues through Jan. 29, 2011
