This month, Ignite, a Seattle-based organization that presents a series of five-minute talks (each speaker gets 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds) comes to Los Angeles. Founders Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis are now joining forces with Heather Schlegal's Geek Dinners, as well as Cinespace, in what promises to be the coolest nerd-fest this side of Comic-Con. Geek Dinners, a monthly gathering of L.A. Internet and technology lovers, originated as a way to unite the burgeoning L.A. new media scene — those either associated with locally based Internet companies or working in the digital sectors of large entertainment conglomerates. The merger with Ignite serves to emphasize the growing trend of new media in L.A. The geek-themed event is anything but exclusive: Anyone and everyone can submit ideas. Find out what it means to be a cool dork.
