2 Dead, 1 Injured in Semi-Truck Accident near Furtado Road

MERCED, CA (June 27, 2022) – Early Tuesday morning, Ieli Paulo Ieli and Andres Hernandez Diaz were killed in a big-rig accident.

Officers responded to the scene around 4:15 a.m., on Highway 59 Furtado Road.

Per reports, Diaz was a passenger inside a 2011 Ford Fusion, while Ieli was driving a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe alongside a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic. Meanwhile, a 2022 Volvo semi-truck was traveling north when the driver veered into oncoming lanes and struck the three vehicles.

Medics arrived and pronounced 33-year-old Ieli Paulo Ieli and 22-year-old Diaz dead at the scene. In addition, the 20-year-old Fusion driver also suffered injuries.

The Chevy driver, a 54-year-old Los Banos male resident, and the male semi-truck driver, a 28-year-old Kingsburg resident, remained uninjured.
