It was a comedy of errors that could have been tragic.

Some folks thought it was a good idea to walk around and go inner-tubing on thin ice formed after recent snowfall in one of the otherwise warmer climes in the United States — Southern California.

It was a mistake caught on video:

Unfortunately the guy who fell in first on Christmas Day couldn't swim and began flailing. Others who rushed, or rather slid, to his aid ended up being consumed by Jackson Lake in Wrightwood too.

As many as a dozen ended up in the frigid water. Others rigged up some ropes and helped to get the victims out, however, and they ended up okay.
