While it's not the first Halloween convention, Midsummer Scream has found its way to the head of the pack. This comes with some drawbacks, as some attendees waited for over two hours to try to get into parking lots (with no one directing traffic, the downtown Long Beach district became a snarl of sad cosplayers who just wanted to park their cars).
Once inside the Long Beach Convention Center for the July 28-29 event, attendees were delighted by the large and varied array of haunted mini-attractions, including a portable maze that anyone can hire for their parties, displays from all the major haunted attractions in SoCal, and appearances by Scream Queens Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, and Linda Blair, star of The Exorcist.
Midsummer Scream is definitely having a few growing pains, but it's still the most enjoyable of the Halloween conventions out there (once you find a way to park and get in, that is).
