“Hwit (White)” is the latest thematic group exhibition in the gallery space atop artisanal design-element suppliers Liz’s Antique Hardware, featuring painting, drawing, sculpture and (on opening night) performance art. You might think the chromatic theme is seasonal for, say, winter or Christmas. In fact, it’s way more pagan than that, going more atavistic and even a little Druid, taking a view of white as symbolic of change, new beginnings, purity, enlightenment and luminosity. With a dozen artists interpreting these ideas through abstraction, narrative, metaphysics, emotion and wit across an eclectic range of styles and mediums, you’ll never see white as just empty space again.
