At 2 p.m. today the Huntington Library Botanical Garden's resident Corpse Flower began blooming, following a week of anticipation. The flower (actually, a massive cluster of flowers), emits a stench akin to rotting flesh in order to attract pollinating insects when in full blossom. Visitors can behold the spectacle between 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, while library members can view it during the evening. The Huntington's Corpse Flower, which currently stands close to 6-feet 10-inches, needs about seven hours to fully bloom, putting its debut at around 9 p.m. tonight.
