Authorities discovered 1.5 tons of marijuana in a railroad container after suspects in a car chase led police to the find in East Los Angeles Sunday night, according to ABC7 and KCAL9.

The whole thing started when police tried to stop a suspected drunk driver at 10:45 p.m., according to the station. Officers caught up with the vehicle, but only after it had been abandoned near Eastern Avenue and Tuttle Street in East. L.A.

Authorities searched the car and allegedly found three packages of marijuana. Cops fanned out and eventually nabbed three suspects, one of whom told police about a stash of cannabis in a rail car nearby, at Union Pacific and Indiana Street, according to ABC7.

Authorities were still retrieving the drugs Monday.

Additionally, a hazardous-materials team was called to the location, according to Los Angeles police and fire officials.

“Officers were following up in reference to a narcotics investigation,'' Officer Sarah Faden said.
