Howie Pyro’s Friends Show Up: There have been a couple of LA-area benefits for punk mainstay Howie Pyro, most recently at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach last year led by the Adolescents. Then, we said that: “Pyro has been a beloved figure in the punk scenes of both NYC and L.A. for decades, playing with D-Generation, the Blessed, the Freaks, Danzig, Joey Ramone and many more. He’s been suffering with illness that requires a liver transplant, so the punk scene is doing what it does — stepping up.”

That’s true here, in an event rescheduled from January. This time, Pyro’s D-Generation bandmate Jesse Malin is hosting a benefit at the Troubadour. According to the press release, “The night will kick off with Jesse Malin and his band, followed by Butch Walker, Jakob Dylan, Suzi Gardner (L7), D Generation with Danny Sage, Richard Bacchus and Jess Malin, Clem Burke (Blondie), Kid Congo Powers (The Cramps, Gun Club, Bad Seeds), Art Alexakis (Everclear), Maros Curiel (POD), Indio Downey (The Dose), Rene Mata (ReachNYC), Johnny Martin, The Sweet Things, Prima Donna, Immy (Counting Crows), Michael Des Barres, Kate Clover, Holly Ramos (OSO My Brain), Bason (War Orphan), with host Bryan Rabin, and more special guests to be announced. ”

That’s a pretty impressive list of performers, but then Pyro deserves it.

“Howie’s influence is everywhere, and he has devoted his life to pushing the boundaries of everything weird and wild in music,” says Malin.  “He is my brother and  has touched so many of our lives for decades.   We love you Howie and want to see you back in the saddle and raising hell again soon.”

“Never has our world needed you more, Howie Pyro, raising our spirits with your inspired spins, and filling spaces with the positive vibes that can only come from one who truly loves, understands and honors the music,” added Cherry Vanilla. “I hope you can feel all of the love and positive vibes we are now sending you, Howie.
