With Tommy Fury withdrawing from his highly-anticipated bout with Jake Paul, UFC veteran Tyron Woodley has been picked as the replacement. Woodley suffered a split decision loss to the YouTube star earlier this year and has been very vocal about his desire for a rematch.
The cancellation comes with disappointment as many fans showed interest in seeing Paul fight an opponent with more professional boxing experience than himself.

A year later, Paul fought ex-NBA player Nate Robinson on the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. undercard. Paul won the fight by knockout in the first two minutes of the first round.
Paul’s third bout was against former UFC competitor Ben Askren, a grappling specialist who was also a defending welterweight champion in Bellator and ONE FC. Once again, Paul won the fight via knockout in the first round.
At this point, Paul began to receive some criticism and critics called for the ex Disney/YouTube star to fight a professional boxer in his own weight class. Moreover, Ben Askren had recently undergone hip surgery and was considered by many to be one of the worst strikers in the UFC when he competed.
After Askren, Paul stepped up his level of competition by fighting former 5-time UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Still, Paul’s detractors were quick to point out that Woodley was nearly 40 years old and had suffered four straight losses before being cut from the UFC.
Moreover, it was noted that like Askren, Woodley was predominantly a wrestler and would have a significant reach disadvantage against paul. However, unlike Askren, Woodley was known for possessing explosive power, and his UFC and StrikeForce career saw him score several highlight-reel knockouts.
The two fought in August of 2021 in Jake’s hometown of Cleveland. The fight saw Jake Paul fight from range and Tyron Woodley being largely inactive. The fight ended in a split decision win for Paul.
Tyron Woodley Boxing Career
Like all of Paul’s past opponents, Woodley has only a single professional boxing match to his name. That said, there was a time when Woodley was considered the best welterweight in the world and was known for his excellent wrestling, strong grappling, and explosive power.
In 2016, Woodley fought for the UFC welterweight championship against then-champion Robbie Lawler. The fight ended brutally in the first round when Woodley landed a well-placed right hand that left Lawler unable to continue.
From there, he would go on to defend his belt 4 times; twice against celebrated striker Stephen ‘wonderboy’ Thompson, once against Brazilian jiu-jitsu Wizz Damien Maia, and finally against the up-and-coming Briton Darren Till.
Woodley would lose his welterweight strap to Kamaru Usman who dominated the champion for five straight rounds. Following his loss to Usman, Woodley would go on to drop his next three bouts and was heavily criticized for his cautious style and unwillingness to engage.
This lack of activity caused many fans to dub him ‘The Frozen One’, a play on his fighter nickname ‘The Chosen One’.
Woodley would be cut from the UFC following his fourth straight loss and quickly agreed to fight Jake Paul in an eight-round boxing match. Once again, Woodley was plagued by inactivity and lack of engagement. He lost the fight by split decision.

Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley 2 will once again be 8 rounds. The fight will be held on December 18th in Tampa, Florida.
The main card, which features four fights in total, is expected to get underway at 9 pm ET (6 pm PT). The main event will begin several hours after with Paul and Woodley making their ring walks around 12 am ET.
The fight will be contested at cruiserweight and will come with a 192-pound limit just like the last meeting between the two.
Who Is Fighting On the Paul vs. Woodley 2 Undercard?
The undercard will see unified women’s lightweight champion Amanda Serrano defend her belts against the fifth-ranked Spaniard Miriam Gutierrez. As with all professional women’s boxing matches, each round will be two minutes in length instead of three.
Before we see Serrano and Gutierrez square off for undisputed status, ex-NBA player Deron Williams will take on former NFL running back Frank Gore in a heavyweight match.
