We think L.A. and the entire, 18 million – population Southern California region are pretty electric.

We attract people from all over the world who want to experience Hollywood nightlife, we're the epicenter of extreme sports, and we have huge immigrant communities of a scale rarely seen in other towns.

We're also quite boring, according to a ranking this week by real estate site Movoto. At least some of the cities within greater SoCal are municipal sticks in the mud:

The site's list of “The 10 Most Boring Places In California” is dominated by small, Greater Los Angeles communities that ranked low for their number of venues for nightlife, music, food and outdoor activities.

Instead of putting on a sourpuss, we're going to make some lemonade.

This is an opportunity to learn about communities you'll want to avoid if your aim is to have a good time (and we know it is):

-Coming in at No. 1 is the Long Beach – adjacent bedroom community of Lakewood. Developed after World War II as a so-called “instant city,” it's the epitome of American suburbia. Though it's surrounded by some real winners (including Hawaiian Gardens), Lakewood maintains its snooze appeal.

Movoto says Lakewood ranked low for fast food, live music and the percentage of young people living there. Sounds right.

-The L.A. County high-desert town of Lancaster made No. 2. And here, we have to emphasize No. 2. If you like diabolic summers, freezing winter nights, meth labs and cars parked on lawns, then maybe Lancaster really is the place for you. Otherwise, Movoto says the area ranks near the bottom of the 100 largest cities in California for dining options.

-Coming in at No. 3 is West Covina, which we really have no problem with. While it's way out there in the San Gabriel Valley's Asian-American exurbia, at least the area has some amazing food. Movoto begs to differ, though, arguing that it's a “samey Southern California locale.”

-With Victorville at No. 4, SoCal swept the top 4 spots. Another high desert shite-hole, this is where your body gets dumped when you're murdered. Movoto says it was tied with Lakewood for the lowest per-capita number of music venues in the Golden State (what, honky-tonk jukeboxes don't count?).

See the whole list here. Program the communities into your nav. Avoid. Thank us later.
