These days there’s no lack of good books to read. The trick is finding a way to sort through them for the best ones!

Here at IndieReader, our job is to recommend the best self-published, hybrid, and small press books. Those that receive a rating of 4-5 stars (the top being 5 stars) are deemed IndieReader Approved.

Find out more about an author who meets that criteria.

Reenita’s story begins with a childhood dream in India, where she harbored ambitions of becoming a writer. “If you asked my ten-year-old self what I wanted to be when I grow up, my answer was always, I will be a writer of books,” she recalls. Growing up in a business-centric, conservative family and a society that didn’t highly regard professions in storytelling, her aspirations seemed like a distant reality. Despite these cultural and familial constraints, Reenita’s passion for writing and storytelling never waned.

Her professional journey saw her delving into various roles–from marketing to journalism, and even as a business owner. Each of these roles had one thing in common: the essence of storytelling. “I’ve always been a storyteller in some shape or form,” Reenita explains, illustrating how storytelling has been the common thread throughout her career.

A Bold Shift During the Pandemic

The pandemic became a pivotal point in Reenita’s life. In a bold move, she decided to forsake her day job to pursue a full-time career in writing. This transition wasn’t just about changing professions; it was about embracing her true calling. “In the middle of the pandemic, I decided to forsake my day job to spend full time on my writing career,” she shares. Reenita embarked on a journey of writing books, screenplays, and audiobooks, venturing into the realms of fiction and non-fiction.

Reenita’s love for fiction stems from its ability to create worlds more intriguing than reality. “The world in my head is so much more fun than my reality,” she says, highlighting her penchant for fiction as a ‘twisted reality’. Inspired by writers like Nora Ephron and Dave Sedaris, she endeavors to find humor in life’s situations, infusing her narratives with a sense of light-heartedness and joy.

Challenges and Triumphs

Transitioning to full-time writing wasn’t devoid of challenges. Reenita had to overcome ingrained beliefs and societal expectations. Her initial reluctance to pursue theater or creative writing, choosing instead a path in political economy, reflected the internal and external pressures she faced. However, her later foray into fictional storytelling marked a significant departure from these constraints, allowing her to fully embrace her passion.

Defining Success and Future Endeavors

For Reenita, success isn’t just about accolades or recognition; it’s about the joy of storytelling and the freedom it brings. “I love being a full-time writer. I don’t know what I would do without it,” she expresses. Her works, set in diverse locations from Mumbai to New Jersey, reflect her desire to connect with a broad audience, bringing cultural richness and depth to her narratives.
