Manoj Soni, senior engineering manager at Clover Network, played a central role in overhauling Clover Go, a mobile payments app owned by fintech firm Fiserv. He restructured the app’s technical foundation and helped shape its product direction, working closely with company leadership on long-term strategy.
Under his guidance, more than 300,000 businesses began relying on Clover Go each month. Collectively, they now process over $7 billion annually through the platform. What started as a basic payments tool has become part of everyday operations for thousands of business owners.
Building the Foundation: Manoj Soni’s Background and Early Career
Manoj Soni’s professional path combines technical rigor with business insight. He earned his engineering degree from India’s National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli and later completed an MBA at the University of Arkansas. That balance of education allowed him to move fluently between deep engineering work and executive-level strategy. He soon applied this dual skill set in engineering and product roles at leading technology companies.
Before Clover, he worked at Tata Elxsi, Aricent, Dell Wyse, Flipagram, and Postmates. At Flipagram, he built a video processing engine that cut rendering time by 70 percent. At Postmates, he developed merchant-facing tools that supported company growth. These skills proved essential at Clover Go.
Rebuilding Clover Go: Architecture, Features, and Vision
When Manoj Soni joined Clover, the original version of Clover Go could handle basic payments but lacked the architecture to support the company’s long-term goals. He needed to rebuild the product from the ground up. Under his direction, the team launched Clover Go v2 using a modular, scalable framework. The redesign made the app easier to maintain and prepared it for faster, continuous improvement.
The team integrated internationalization support, cleaned up legacy systems, and created a structure that could accommodate high-velocity development without breaking under pressure. By introducing a server-driven architecture, Soni enabled the team to push updates in real time. This eliminated the need for repeated app store approvals and gave the team the flexibility to quickly respond to new regulations and customer needs.
“It was about giving merchants flexibility through seamless updates,” Soni explains.
Soni led feature development alongside architectural upgrades focused on real merchant pain points. One of the features his team launched, invoicing, brought in $150 million during its first year. He also led the development of Offline Mode, which allows transactions without an internet connection, and Rapid Deposit, which gives merchants near-instant access to earnings. His team also built push notifications to help business owners stay informed and respond quickly when the system requires attention.
“We’ve always designed Clover Go to support the merchant’s goals,” Soni says.
Soni also oversaw the integration of Apple Tap to Pay, which allows merchants to accept contactless payments directly on their iPhones. By removing the need for dongles or card readers, the team simplified the merchant experience while expanding accessibility.
“If we can remove one more piece of friction, we’re doing our job,” Soni adds.
How Clover Go Became a Full Business Platform
Clover Go has grown far beyond its original payments focus. Today, business owners use it to manage inventory, track orders, issue refunds, and monitor sales performance. Its consistent 4.5-star ratings reflect strong user adoption and retention. The team has made the platform integral to everyday business tasks by focusing on usability, performance, and merchant needs.
The team supports every feature they release with behavioral data — a practice Soni has carried throughout his career. He used Amplitude at Flipagram to guide development and now relies on Firebase Analytics at Clover to understand user behavior and optimize features.
“Every feature is a hypothesis,” Soni notes. “The real work starts once users interact with it.”
