With a multidisciplinary background in finance, AI, deep tech, and clean energy, strategic innovation leader Luis Martin has been helping organizations modernize their systems to keep up with rising demands and streamline their operations for over a decade.

Currently the growth and strategic initiatives lead at renewable energy company Exowatt, he focuses on adapting power systems to support fast-growing sectors like AI.

But Luis’s work goes beyond the tech side. He works closely with teams to build deep understanding around new tools so everyone knows how they work and why they matter, ensuring they are adopted successfully and deliver real impact. He is also a dedicated mentor to upcoming engineers and analysts, helping them develop the skills to adapt and thrive.

For Luis, lasting change only happens when people fully understand technology, trust its purpose, and work together in alignment.

Developing An Interest In Infrastructure

Luis first became interested in infrastructure while traveling with his father and grandfather, when he saw SpaceX successfully land its Falcon 9 rocket. It wasn’t just the engineering feat itself that fascinated him, but the coordination behind it: how flight control teams, engineers, developers, and mission operators worked together to make something so complex run smoothly.

That moment shifted his focus. Rather than concentrating on business outcomes alone, he became more interested in the systems behind them: the technical layers, the coordination across teams, and the structures that enable organizations to achieve bigger goals.

This foundation propelled him from management consulting into a company at the heart of financial services innovation—driven by two of the decade’s most transformative technologies: AI and blockchain. That company was Allfunds, a leading platform connecting fund providers with financial institutions. As Corporate Development and M&A Manager, Luis led multiple acquisitions across Europe, contributing to over €1.5 billion in company revenue. Beyond dealmaking, he gained hands-on experience integrating advanced technologies like the above mentioned blockchain and AI into operational workflows, deepening his understanding of how technical systems power strategic growth.

This gave him first-hand insight into the deeper nuances of scaling both operations and technology at the same time, as well as how strategic planning is essential to managing that growth.

Learning to Scale Technology and Teams Together

Luis left Allfunds to strengthen both his leadership skills and business knowledge with an MBA at MIT Sloan, where he studied how to lead large-scale projects by aligning technical changes with the teams and processes that support them.

The insight from this experience first came into play in 2023, when he led a project for GoTyme, a fast-growing digital bank in Southeast Asia that wanted to incorporate generative AI tools like internal chatbots to automate repetitive administrative tasks and improve customer support.

Luis was responsible for leading the rollout across the organization, but he quickly ran into a challenge: some customer support employees were unsure how the tools might affect their jobs. The purpose of the project hadn’t been clearly explained, leading to growing fear that automation could eventually lead to layoffs amongst staff.

Rather than move forward with that uncertainty in the air, Luis put the project on hold to address these problems. He set up a series of workshops to walk teams through how the tools worked, what they were designed to support, and where human expertise would remain essential. These sessions gave employees a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and understand how the project fit into the company’s long-term goals.

The initiative paid off, creating company-wide alignment that was key to the rollout’s success. By building trust in the process early on, Luis helped turn a potential obstacle into a lasting win for the company.

Making AI Sustainable at Exowatt

At Exowatt, a U.S.-based renewable energy company developing clean, on-demand power systems, Luis applies his technical and operational expertise as their growth and strategic initiatives lead, shaping the energy systems that support emerging technologies.

He’s particularly focused on the rising energy costs associated with AI. As this technology becomes more central to business operations across industries, operating costs are expected to exceed $76 billion annually by 2028 (more than twice Amazon’s entire cloud service expenses), putting pressure on energy providers to scale efficiently.

In response, Luis is helping Exowatt deliver clean, reliable power that meets this growing demand and sustainably and efficiently supports the next generation of AI technologies.

His Work As a Mentor

Alongside his technical work, Luis has also made mentoring a key part of his career, helping others grow and succeed.

Always a great believer in paying it forward, Luis has mentored at every stage of his career—guiding everyone from his first hires at Allfunds to peers pursuing top U.S. MBA programs. In his second year at MIT, while co-teaching the acclaimed Fintech Venture Studio course with Professor Matthew Rhodes-Kropf, he honed his mission to fuse technology, innovation, financial services, and deep tech so founders can tackle early-stage risk systematically. Since then, he has helped entrepreneurs raise multimillion-dollar rounds and has remained the steadfast ally they count on. One founder he coached earned a spot in MIT’s premier accelerator and secured a sizable seed round; another, a close friend and co-founder he advised, entered Y Combinator to pioneer breakthroughs in AI orchestration.

For Luis, mentoring isn’t a side activity, it’s essential for developing capable professionals who can lead, build strong teams, and drive lasting success in the industry.
