House of Internet Party at SXSW, Hosted by Almost Friday and Doing Things Media, Attracts Thousands as First-Ever, “Internet House Party”

This past weekend hundreds of thousands of people flocked to Austin, Texas for the kick-off of SXSW, the iconic 10-day festival combining tech, film, media and the music industry. While there were countless entertaining events, panels and performances, the one that really stuck in our memory was the first-ever internet house party, “House of Internet”, hosted on March 12th by social media companies, Almost Friday and Doing Things Media and alcohol brand, Long Drink.

So what exactly does an internet house party entail? Well, it’s a house party filled with creators, media lovers, and anyone down to have a good ass time. Which turns out…was a lot of people! “We couldn’t believe the amount of attendance it got – we had a line going around the block from 1 pm until 2 am”, says Jack Barrett, CEO of genius meme accounts, Almost Friday and Friday Beers. The event, held at The Pershing, ended up raking in an attendance of over 3,000 people!

Reid Hailey, CEO of the successful media company, Doing Things Media, explained the main goal behind the creation of the event was, “to show the people behind the endless feeds of content and create a place where everyone can experience that feeling they get when they’ve shared something hilarious from a friend in a group chat, in-real-life”. He described how they all recognized the past couple of years have been pretty unpredictable and wanted to celebrate and create an in-person community for all of the people who have been keeping us entertained during this crazy time.

The Internet House Party was around 14 hours long, and there was never a dull moment. There was not only an interactive lineup of live podcasts including Two Hot Takes, Friday Beers, and Country Club Adjacent but also hilariously fun stand-up performances by comedians Strider Wilson, Hanna Dickinson, Jake Adams, Leah Lamar and Griff Pippin.

If you weren’t in the main auditorium having a laugh or grabbing a Long Drink at the open bar, you were outside playing cornhole, flip cup, sweating while exposing yourself in a polygraph test, slamming the pinball machines in the full arcade, or eating up some Torchy’s Tacos with Mark Cuban…yes, Mark Cuban was there. The party included other notable guests like Tik Toker and Podcaster, Tinx and the Houston Texans wide receiver, Danny Amendola.

While the activities were endless and the guest list was packed, no house party is complete without the perfect playlist. This is why they had music performances lined up all day and night with music artists Bynx, Blake Webber, and DJ Press Play setting the tone for the party.

At this point, you might be starting to feel the FOMO, but don’t worry. Word on the street is this definitely won’t be the last time a House of Internet party will be happening! Doing Things Media and Almost Friday plan to partner up again to throw another event at Art Basel and throw an SXSW round two, next year. Stay in touch with them to be notified of any newly added Doing Things Media x Almost Friday events. You won’t want to miss this.
