Hope Tala is Feeling Mad: London-based artist Hope Tala has released a new single, “Mad.” The song is her first release since her well-received Girl Eat Sun EP.

“It’s a shame, that I love you, and you don’t feel the way I do,” she sings mournfully as the song starts. Later, she says that it makes her mad, and she’s “tearing my hair out.” Damn!

The video is surprisingly chill, considering the raw and honest lyrics. There’s some interpretive “mad” dancing, but for the most part she appears to be lounging on multiple mattresses and out in nature.

“I wrote ‘MAD’ about having feelings of frustration and hysteria in a long-distance relationship,” Tala said in a press release. “It’s about being unable to communicate properly and feeling lost in loneliness—so it’s ironic that I wrote most of the song a week or two before the first lockdown started in the UK. Foreshadowing, almost.”
