Amazon Studios is teaming up with Homeboy Industries, the Los Angeles-based non-profit founded by Father Greg Boyle, dedicated to gang intervention and rehabilitation of formerly incarcerated individuals, to help support Los Angeles poll workers.

On Election Day, Amazon Studios and Homeboy Industries will provide breakfast and lunch for poll workers in select voting centers located in  under resourced, structurally marginalized areas including East L.A., Palmdale, Compton and San Fernando. The goal is to serve about 800 poll workers at 55 voting centers across L.A.  County. The meals will be produced and delivered by Feed HOPE, Homeboy Industries’ newly launched initiative which has delivered more than 150,000 meals to food insecure Angelenos during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Workers can expect a continental breakfast with Homeboy Bakery pastries, fresh fruit and an assortment of protein snacks with coffee and orange juice.   Lunch will be a classic pasta dish designed by the women who lead Homegirl Catering. It’s  rotini pasta, with a house made pesto, grilled chicken breast, Panella cheese and cherry tomatoes, with a fresh green salad and a dessert from Homeboy Bakery.”

The Homegirl Café  in downtown L.A. re-opened this week for walk up, take-out service featuring a  new menu offering  freshly made pastries, salads,  sandwiches and xilaquiles, open from  7 AM to  2 PM, Monday through Friday.

“In a year filled with so much uncertainty, we wanted to educate our staff about the importance of the right to vote and how the process allows everyone’s voice to be heard,” Mariana Henriquez, Manager of Homegirl Café and the FEED HOPE program tells L.A. Weekly.  “What could be better than giving back to all the poll workers who will work in the communities where our staff members were born and raised and where many currently live.”
