A spokeswoman for Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge confirmed to LA Weekly Tuesday a report stating that his home had been burglarized recently.

According tot he Los Angeles Times, LaBonge and and his family realized their home had been burglarized Friday afternoon upon returning to the Silver Lake residence; a neighbor reported spotting a pair of teens climbing into the home but brushed if off after concluding the young people were connected to the household.

Burglaries in the Los Angeles Police Department division that covers LaBonge's home are up 52 percent compared to last year (PDF). (Rape is up 117 percent).

LaBonge told the Times about $3,000 worth of goods, including a laptop and some jewelry, were taken.
