To accommodate the demands of spring do-it-yourselfers, The Home Depot is seeking to hire about 2,000 employees for in-store positions ranging from cashiers to department supervisors in the greater Los Angeles area, and 80,000 nationwide.

With 66 stores in this region, District Manager John Cruz, says the positions available will range from store-to store. But with spring approaching, many of the hires will be in the gardening and paint departments. Currently, there are 615 job postings on their website for the L.A. region.

Jordan Levine, an expert on California Economy at Beacon Economics, says that the 2,000 jobs will help the economy, but won't make a huge impact on Los Angeles' labor market of more than 4 million.

“It will make a difference for the individual to get those jobs,” says Levine, “and there will be some secondary impact as a result of that in sense that those folks will spend those wages back into the economy.”

The Home Depot also has a webpage to help military personnel translate their skills to see how they would best fit in at the company.

Cruz explains what they're looking for:

“We encourage retirees and transitioning military and veterans that we have opportunities out there and we're looking for good people that are passionate about customer service.”
