Christmas is the only time of year that bad fashion is actually encouraged. Namely, the ugly sweater, whose eponymous Ugly Sweater Run encourages owners of that tacky and ubiquitous holiday statement piece — be it Bill Cosby-style, battery-operated or homemade with glue and felt — to wear their prized possession for the annual 5K event. You can take part in a team or hog all the glory as you traverse the 3.1-mile course, which includes holiday-themed stations, Christmas music, photo booths, hot chocolate, cider and beer. But why stop at a sweater? Since the unisex handlebar mustache is the very latest ironic hipster trend, organizers will be handing out fake mustaches so you can feel warm and hairy all over. Awards will be given to best real and fake mustache, best beard and best and worst sweater. Participants are asked to bring a toy to donate to Toys for Tots. L.A. Historic Park, 1245 N. Spring St., Chinatown; Sat., Dec. 21, 11 a.m.; $44, $50 day of run, kids 8 & under free. Register online at theuglysweaterrun.com.
