It’s a Tuesday night. You’re being abducted by hipsters and taken to Cinespace. Your only hope for escaping unnoticed is a quick and cheap disguise. Grab some household scissors and follow our handy guide (see figs. 1-4), and in minutes you too can be a Klute klone, conveying an enviable sense of ironic nostalgia. The unisex shag made famous by Jane Fonda in the 1971 epic Klute — a cut alternately known as the “mod-mull” (“modified mullet”) or “hipster shag” — is quite simply the haircut that refused to die. No cut ?will offer you better cover among a roomful of rock & roll fashion victims. Note: Twin-sister act Tegan (above left) & Sara have sported Klute kuts for ages with aplomb.
