Hot summer weather, warm Pacific Ocean temperatures and high surf could combine to create disaster.
And all this during a holiday weekend.
Hear us out: Even as things were expected to cool along the coast, the unrelenting heat inland will bring the masses to our beaches.
The problem is that most of these people don't surf. Some can't swim. But the Pacific, she is inviting. Water temps are expected to be about 68 degrees, which is almost as warm as it gets (70, 72 is usually tops for the cool Pacific around here).
High surf can be deadly. Even small or no surf can kill when people panic. Life guards will have their jobs cut out for them.

The National Weather Service says tropical storm Ileana off Baja will combine with a separate, “long-period” south swell to bring waves to SoCal beaches.
The service issued a coastal hazard message saying the swells were on their way and should start hitting Friday and last through the Sunday.
Waves 6 to 8 feet were expected. That's bigger than Shaq.
So, to make a long story short, be careful. Don't get in the water unless you know what you're doing.
