The anonymous person who has been hiding cash, sometimes $100 worth, on the streets of San Francisco could be expanding his or her “Hidden Cash” project to Los Angeles.

The person who claims to be the donor told the Huffington Post that the project would likely be coming to L.A. this weekend and then to New York soon afterward.

The big question, of course, is why?

The site Bold Italic also says someone claiming to be the donor has come forward with information.

The tipster seemed to be legit: A Twitter account was spotlighted, and that account has had some pretty good clues about where hidden money could be discovered in San Francisco.

The self-proclaimed donor said:

I've made millions of dollars the last few years, more than I ever imagined, and yet many friends of mine, and people who work for me, cannot afford to buy a modest home in the Bay Area. This has caused me quite a bit of reflection. I am determined to give away some of the money I make, and in addition to charity, to do it in fun, creative ways like this.

We're not sure $100 is going to fix this, but the sentiment seems heartfelt.

Is “Hidden Cash” moving south? The Twitter account says the project will be in San Jose Wednesday (and boy, the Silicon Valley really needs this).

Huffington Post's source said this:

I am OK with giving out at least $1,000 a day for the foreseeable future. It will not affect my finances significantly. We are planning to add more cities, starting with L.A. next weekend, and NYC shortly afterwards.

This could cause a riot in L.A. Be careful out there, people. Remember, $100 isn't worth tearing someone's face off over.
