Sure, sure it's totally safe. It's like an elevator. Even if it gets stuck, there is very little chance that you will fall suddenly to a pitiless death.

But that doesn't make it any fun when it does get stuck, as it did today, according to the Desert Sun. Apparently five people were going down and 45 people were on the way up when the tram stopped for some reason about 11 a.m.

The paper doesn't say how long the passengers were suspended in mid-air, though one infers that it wasn't long.

Once it started up again, the tram proceeded to its destination, and then the engineers shut it down for three hours for maintenance. During that period, about 200 people were stranded up at the top.

The tram was back up and running normally by mid-afternoon.
