Marshall McLuhan,

What are you doin'?

The above couplet is one of the more memorable poems presented on the 1960s

Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In program by Henry Gibson, who died this week at his Malibu home. He was 73.

Gibson played several recurring characters in the ensemble comedy show, but his main persona was that of a shy yet determined poet who would

very briefly grab the spotlight to deliver a piece of rhymed whimsy. He was

the show's gentlest clown who embodied both America's rediscovered spirit of nonconformity and the soul of  its secret poets. Several YouTube

tributes to Gibson have appeared since his death, and the brief, wordless montage seen here is one of the most heartfelt salutes to this unique

comedian and actor.
