AIDS Clinical Trials Information Services (800-TRIALS-A) is a service providing information about the drugs currently being tested to treat AIDS and about how to become a participant in clinical trials. If you need a referral service for information on HIV testing facilities, doctors, clinics or legal-recourse sources, call the California HIV/AIDS Hot Line at (800-367-2437). Questions regarding HIV/AIDS are answered weekdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., weekends and holidays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.


Blood Pressure Clinic, West Hollywood Senior Center at Plummer Park (1200 N. Vista St.; 323-851-8202), conducts free blood-pressure testing every Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in front of Fiesta Hall.


Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (8700 Beverly Blvd.; 310-855-5000; www.csmc.edu) is the largest nonprofit hospital in the western U.S. and provides an impressive range of health services, including a Level One trauma unit and organ transplantation. It boasts one of the nation’s largest birthing units, and is committed to AIDS research and treatment. Anyone with health concerns, or seeking a referral, can speak with a registered nurse at (800) CEDARS-1.


L.A. County Department of Health Services, Public/Private Partnership Clinic Program (800-427-8700) is a referral hot line to clinics participating in the PPP program, providing free or low-cost primary-health-care options for eligible low-income or uninsured individuals or families. The Human Services Information Line (800-339-6993) operates 24 hours, providing health-service referrals throughout L.A. County in both English and Spanish.


Los Angeles Free Clinic (8405 Beverly Blvd.; 323-653-8622) was founded in 1967 and offers a broad range of services, including medical (primary and specialty care for adults, women’s health, and family planning), dental (X-rays, fillings, etc.), mental health (counseling, crisis intervention and referral services) and legal assistance. Almost all services are provided free.


Progressive Health Services & Wholistic Health for Women & Men (8240 Santa Monica Blvd.; 323-650-1508) is an organization offering a broad spectrum of gynecological care, including prenatal and abortion referral, in addition to acupuncture, herbs and nutritional counseling.


V.A. West Los Angeles Healthcare Center (310-478-3711) offers a wide array of in-patient and ambulatory care for local veterans, including medical, surgical and psychiatric care. Numerous geriatric and extended-care services are also offered.


West Hollywood Comprehensive Service Center–Disability Services (1200 N. Vista St.; 323-851-8202) assists its citizens with physical, psychological and medical disabilities. Services include advocacy, information, referrals and counseling, as well as case management.
