Following in the footsteps of giants is never easy. For Harper Simon, son of the infinitely talented Paul Simon, striking out on his own took decades of work. Harper previously played guitar with U.K. rockers Menlo Park, but tonight at the Echo, Paul's oldest son presents the Americana-tinged, folksy sing-alongs from his self titled debut album released yesterday. The album, produced by Bob Johnston, the maestro behind Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited, burgeons with performances by fine musicians and Harper's record release show brings many of them along. Harper will pack the stage with an esteemed cadre including Russell Simins, Jeff Hill, David Rawlings, Benmont Tench, Farmer Dave Scher, and a horn section.

Friends and collaborators will open the show and maybe accompany Harper during his set. Two-thirds of the Living Sisters open (Inara George and Eleni Mandell), followed by Petra Haden–accomplished violinist/singer and daughter of legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden– with the jazzy Jim Bianco.
