Squid Ink is off for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Between the holiday and the rainstorm, it's a good day to stay home if you can and bake some cookies.

Going with the day's theme of nonviolence, here's a recipe for sugar cookies from the American Friends Service Committee. Like Dr. King and President Obama, the AFSC was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. (Cut the cookie dough out in donkey and elephant shapes, for a little bipartisanship.) Or try making Dorie Greenspan's World Peace cookies. The Pierre Hermé-inspired recipe (bittersweet chocolate, fleur de sel) won't solve all our problems, but they'll make them significantly more bearable.
