Place: Left Coast Wine Bar & Gallery, 117 E. Harvard St., Glendale; (818) 507-7011.

Hours: Daily 4 – 7 p.m.

Deals: $15 wine flights (three 3-oz. pours of choice); $5 house red or white wine; $5 sangria; $4 draft beer (not including Chimay). There are four options for food from a cheese plate to grilled sausage, starting at $5 to $8.99.

Vibe: Left Coast Wine Bar & Gallery is diagonally across the street from the Americana at Brand. Away from the crowd, the two-floor bar with outdoor front patio is mostly a wine bar during happy hour and an entertainment space, with nightly live music programs as it gets later. The outdoor shopping center, on the other hand, has designated spots for drinks, music and little overlap of the two.

The latter is likely one reason why an Americana shopper might stop by for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc on a weekday — joining professionals looking to unwind post-work. Even with contemporary art hung against the walls, the main attraction remains the wines, many bottles of which are kept upstairs.

When ordering the customizable wine flight, co-owner Rachelle Ryan may be at hand. In this case, she'll help you choose three varietals you'd like to drink and then fine-tune them further with a suggestion or two. At $15, the range of choices for the flight is wider than average, making it a solid happy hour deal. The sangria is a no-nonsense cocktail with minimal sugar; the affable Ryan might acknowledge this when asked, and offer sugar to accommodate.
