Performance art isn't just for lofty intellectuals anymore — just go to any 9-year-old's birthday party to see how much shit gets thrown around. Rachel Rosenthal's 83rd Birthday Bash at Track 16 Gallery promises something slightly more evolved but no less viscerally spectacular: The teacher/activist/performance artist (circle one or more) hosts a silent auction of 83 portraits by the likes of Eleanor Antin, Lita Albuquerque, John Baldessari, Mike Kelley, Martin Kersels, Ed Moses and Robert Rauschenberg. Proceeds go to the continued support of Rosenthal's students and her TOHUBOHU! Extreme Theatre Ensemble. Also tickling the senses are live actions by California E.A.R. Unit's electronic percussionist Amy Knoles and chansonnier Jean-Paul Monsche; the custom comestibles of Culver City's Cake Divas; and wines from Grateful Palate Imports, featuring words like bitch and evil in their names. Scandalous!
