Subway, Burger King, and other sandwich shops are likely to experience a dip in sales tomorrow afternoon.

The reason is, bargain hunters will be heading for Canter's on Fairfax. The restaurant and deli celebrates its 80th anniversary Tuesday with an almost giveaway, an 80-cent hot corned beef sandwich. Get it? A penny a year.

The sandwich comes on freshly baked rye bread, accompanied by a homemade pickle, a “taste” of potato salad and even a cookie, chocolate rugula.

The deal lasts for eight hours, from 4 p.m. to midnight, which should accommodate a lot of sandwich lovers. But don't be greedy. The limit is one to a customer.
